Pilot car fuel surcharge calculator
Use this free calculator to turn the fuel-price terms in your customer agreement into either a percentage surcharge or a per-mile fuel charge.
The calculator attempts to load recent U.S. diesel observations from the EIA, but it never depends on that connection: you can always enter the agreed current price manually.
Fuel observations show their own EIA reporting dates. Confirm the calculation method with your customer before adding FSC to an invoice.

About Fuel Surcharges
Fuel surcharges help offset sudden diesel cost swings so rates stay predictable for both escort operators and customers.
- Base Price Method: compares current fuel cost to a base-rate threshold.
- MPG Method: calculates by fuel cost per mile using your fleet average MPG.
Weekly Update Cycle
Data is pulled from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) weekly diesel reports, commonly published on Mondays and applied by carriers starting Tuesday.
Official Source
See raw diesel updates directly from the EIA Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update.
Keep the approved surcharge with your pilot car invoice, or use the rate calculator to estimate the full job.
